Some couples are sweet.
Some couples are playful.
And then there are couples like Andrew and Nicole. The kind of couple who move like they’ve been dancing through life together forever.
The kind whose chemistry doesn’t need to be manufactured, over-posed, or forced.
It just exists.
Electric. Effortless. Magnetic.
From the moment we met at Fort Knox in Prospect, Maine, I knew this engagement session was going to be something special.
Not just because of the dramatic stone architecture, moody skies, historic tunnels, or the castle-like atmosphere that makes Fort Knox one of the most unique engagement photo locations in Maine.
But because Andrew and Nicole brought something even more powerful to this session:
Connection.
The kind you can feel in every frame.

I first met Nicole at a wedding show, and from the start, I knew they were the exact kind of couple I love working with: relaxed, adventurous, deeply connected, and completely willing to trust the creative process.
Even more surprising? This was actually their very first time having professional photos taken together.
You never would have guessed it.
They moved through Fort Knox like they were in their own world. Laughing. Running. Spinning through the courtyards. Pulling each other close in the quiet moments between movement and conversation.
Completely natural.
Completely them.
And honestly? Watching them together felt less like posing and more like documenting two people who genuinely enjoy existing beside one another.
Those are always the sessions that create magic.

And then there’s the completely random fact that still makes me laugh:
My husband and I are also Andrew and Nicole.
One of my childhood friends is named Nicole and married an Andrew too.
And this Andrew and Nicole will officially make the second Andrew and Nicole wedding I’ve been hired to document.
At this point, I’m convinced there’s just something about that combination of names that works.

One of my favorite moments from the day happened before we had even fully started the session.
We were just walking through the parking lot to Fort Knox when a woman driving a large pickup truck literally slammed on her brakes, jumped out, and shouted across the parking lot to tell Nicole how stunning she looked in her white dress.
And honestly? She wasn’t wrong.
Nicole looked effortlessly elegant against the historic stone walls and dramatic textures of the fort. Combined with the overcast skies and soft coastal breeze rolling through the property, the entire evening felt cinematic in the best possible way.

What made this location even more meaningful is that Nicole actually has a personal connection to the area. She was part of the company involved in the construction of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory, which stands just beside Fort Knox and overlooks the Penobscot River.
That connection made this engagement session feel even more personal to them, which is something I always encourage couples to think about when choosing where to have their photos taken.
The best engagement sessions are never just about pretty scenery.
They’re about choosing places that feel like part of your story.
And Fort Knox gave us the perfect balance of emotion, architecture, history, movement, and drama.

If you’re searching for a location in Maine that feels completely different from the traditional beach, mountain, or open-field engagement session, Fort Knox offers an incredible amount of variety and atmosphere in one location.
Located in Prospect, Maine beside the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, Fort Knox combines historic architecture, massive stone walls, dramatic archways, tunnels, staircases, textured surfaces, open courtyards, and river views in a way that feels almost cinematic.
One of my favorite things about photographing engagement sessions here is how dynamic the location becomes depending on weather and light.
Bright golden sunlight creates warmth and softness, while cloudy or overcast days (like Andrew and Nicole’s session) create moody contrast and dramatic depth that work beautifully for emotional, storytelling-focused imagery.
Fort Knox is especially perfect for couples who:
And despite how visually dramatic the location feels, it’s also surprisingly versatile and easy to explore during a session.
Yes! Dogs are allowed at Fort Knox as long as they remain leashed and owners clean up after them. Including your dog in your engagement photos can make the session feel even more personal and meaningful.
Fort Knox photographs beautifully with neutral tones, flowing fabrics, layered textures, and outfits that allow movement. Nicole’s white dress worked perfectly against the dark stone architecture and cloudy skies because it created softness and contrast within the environment.
I always help my couples choose outfits that complement both the location and the overall feeling they want their photos to have.
Almost every couple says this before their engagement session.
The good news is that you do not need modeling experience to create emotional, natural-looking photographs.
My approach focuses heavily on movement, interaction, storytelling, and guided direction rather than stiff posing, which helps couples relax and genuinely connect with each other during the session.
Andrew and Nicole had never had professional photos taken together before this session, and you would never know it looking at their gallery.
For Maine couples, I generally recommend scheduling engagement photos 6–12 months before your wedding date. This gives plenty of time to use images for save-the-dates, wedding websites, and invitations while allowing flexibility for seasonal preferences.
Absolutely.
One of the biggest benefits of working with me is that I help couples choose locations that fit both their personalities and the overall feeling they want their images to have.
Whether you're drawn to the coast, historic architecture, mountain views, open fields, or somewhere deeply personal to your story, we'll find the perfect fit together.
Yes. Most couples choose one casual outfit and one dressier option.
Multiple outfits can help create variety throughout your gallery while allowing you to showcase different sides of your personalities.
You deserve more than a list of poses.
You deserve photographs that capture the way your relationship actually feels.
The quiet moments.
The laughter.
The anticipation.
The connection that exists when nobody else is paying attention.
Whether you're planning a wedding in Maine or simply looking for engagement photos that feel personal, meaningful, and uniquely yours, I'd love to help you tell your story.
This feels much more "you."
